Dozens of dedicated individuals%u2014representing nonprofi ts, businesses, government agencies, and the broader community%u2014gather not for titles or credit, but for one united purpose: improving the lives of Nevada%u2019s veterans. This is the Southern Nevada Veterans Providers Group (SNVPG), a coalition founded by longtime advocates Walter Lescano and Hunter Cain. What began as a grassroots effort to bring service providers together has grown into a vital network of collaboration, support, and real impact for veterans and their families.Last month, the group hosted a Memorial Day BBQ that drew hundreds, despite the intense summer heat. With food, laughter, and connection in abundance, it was a heartfelt reminder of what community looks like in action. And the work doesn%u2019t stop there.Upcoming events shared at the most recent meeting refl ect the group%u2019s growing momentum. On July 19th, the Asian Pacifi c Community Awareness group will host its 4th Annual Bowl-a-Thon, benefi ting both Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 711 and the Foster Care Chamber of Commerce, which serves aging-out foster youth%u2014many with direct ties to the military. Two days earlier, on July 17th, the Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals (VAREP) will hold a Texas Hold%u2019em Tournament, with $500 at stake and the proceeds benefi ting veteran support programs. But SNVPG%u2019s impact goes far beyond events. The group champions initiatives focused on mental health, housing support, women veterans, and even gaming communities for veterans seeking connection. No issue is too small. If it matters to one veteran, it matters to the whole group.Walter Lescano, a veteran and cofounder of SNVPG, summed it up best:%u201cThis isn%u2019t just a meeting. Every month, people from all walks of life show up because they care. And the beauty is, you don%u2019t have to be a provider to take part. If you%u2019re a veteran, or just someone who supports them, there%u2019s a seat for you at the table. The Southern Nevada Veterans Providers Group meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at the North Las Vegas Veterans Community Outreach and Resource Center. Veterans, allies, and community partners are encouraged to attend and help shape a stronger future for those who served. To get involved or learn more, contact the Veterans Community Outreach and Resource Center directly.
