The club hosts a wide variety of veterans groups both local and from across the country for meetings, charitable functions, and unique events. Ghost, the club%u2019s owner is all in for everything that supports veterans but is notoriously shy when it comes to talking about his establishment. True to his handle Ghost evaporated into the ether when it came to talking about his Leatherneck Club, but the patrons of the club were more than happy to sing the praises of the iconic local veterans%u2019 hangout. Virtually everyone who goes there consider it their %u201chome away from home%u201d and consider it a mecca for both veterans and active service members. While the food and service do get mentioned, the commitment and support the club gives to the veteran%u2019s community and all their activities is the #1 thing mentioned by all. A veteran of the Marines, National Guard and a 14 year member of the Marine Riders explained, %u201dI enjoy this club, it%u2019s a home from home.%u201d With him an air Force vet who has been coming to bar for 12 years spoke about how they welcomed everyone. %u201cIt%u2019s a bunch of good people good vets%u2026They actually threw a party for us for the Air Force%u2019s birthday. %u2026 No better place to come for brotherhood and fellowship.%u201dA woman whose husband is a Viet Nam vet extolls the food, service and %u201c... all the activities for Veterans....We just love that there is someplace... people can come here and feel at home and welcome.%u201d Chantal Brown a Marine Corp veteran who works at the bar added, %u201cI feel like I%u2019m at home.%u201dPerhaps the ultimate show of support comes from Steven Nevarez and Bunny Roman who just got married there on 2.22.22. Navarez a retired Marine Gunny Sergeant and 10-year patron says, %u201cThis is a second home for us. It%u2019s a place for us to come together and bond, hang out with other Marines. To just feel at home, feel safe.%u201d Safe enough to fall in love and propose to Bunny. Mary Devine,NDVS DirectorHappy holidays! I hope this message fi nds you and your family healthy and well! I can%u2019t say enough good things about how this year is winding up and how positive the future looks for Nevada%u2019s veterans! In 2024, our Veterans and Advocacy Team submitted 29,820 claims to the VA resulting in $299,324,258 in earned veteran disability benefi ts for the year. This connection to earned benefi ts changes lives, improving the quality of life for so many of our veterans. Additionally, our team has connected to thousands of veterans through various events held across Nevada throughout the year to make sure those who have served in the U.S. military know how they can access the programs, benefi ts, and resources they have earned. We are so proud and honored to have played a role in making sure our heroes are connected to the benefi ts they deserve and have earned. I look forward to doing even more in the new year ahead! As for connection, we are humbled by the amazing turnout for Wreaths Across America this year. It is heartwarming to see how Nevada%u2019s veterans%u2019 community came together in support of this annual event. We estimate as many as 8,000 volunteers turned out to lay more than 12,000 wreaths at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery this year. The event in the north was just as successful with some 1,600 volunteers laying around 8,000 wreaths in Fernley! Thank you to our volunteer organizations and our participants for making sure this event was such a success! Finally, NDVS will be hosting the 2025 Nevada Veterans Legislative Summit in Las Vegas and Reno in January. This event provides you with the opportunity to learn about the legislative process as well as the issues that were identifi ed as important to Nevada%u2019s veterans%u2019 community. The fi rst summit will be held in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 11, at the Dula Community Center at 451 East Bonanza Road. Just click this link to register in Las Vegas. The second session will be held in Reno on Saturday, January 18, at the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home (NNSVH), at 36 Battle Born Way in Sparks. Register HERE in Reno by clicking the link. The summit is held in partnership with the United Veterans Legislative Council (UVLC). I want to personally thank UVLC Chairman Andy LePeilbet for all of his help and support as we gear up the 83rd session of the Nevada Legislature. If you cannot attend the summit, just follow the events on our website by going HERE. In closing, I want to thank each and every one of you for all of your support over the past year to ensure our veterans, military members and their families know we %u201chave their back%u201d and appreciate and honor them. Happiest of holidays to everyone and hope to see you at an NDVS event soon!
